CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP OF LOVE BAPTIST CHURCH HISTORY

“A JOURNEY OF FAITH”

CFL

Begining

In December of 2005, the Holy Spirit revealed to Pastor Samuel J. Thompson that he was to organize another Baptist church. Pastor Thompson putting his faith and trust in God began the process of organizing a church. His inspiration was that “Christian Fellowship of Love Baptist Church” should be the church’s name. This was derived from I John 4:7-12, (which reads in part) “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God… if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time, if we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfect in us.”

First Service

02

The first worship service occurred on Sun. Feb. 5, 2006, with a church school attendance of 161 and worship service attendance of over 300. Ministries were organized and assumed their respective places on Sun. Feb. 12, 2006. The church commenced with Rev. James Marshall (Asst. to the Pastor), Rev. Charlie Barber, Rev. Annie Williams, Rev. Kenneth Marshall, 14 deacons, and six trustees. (In the life of Christian Fellowship, we have also had the service of Rev. JoAnn Thomas Plummer, Rev. George Harton, Rev. LeRoy Burden, Rev. Patricia Stallworth, Rev. Mary Holcomb, Rev. James Moseley, Rev. Jeffrey Knight, and Rev. Maurice Jackson.) With a desire for a permanent home. We were led to the current location at 22400 Grand River. We marched into our new church on Sun. June 4, 2006.

CURRENT CHURCH STANDING

03

Following the retirement of Pastor Samuel J. Thompson, the Lord blessed the Christian Fellowship of Love Baptist Church with our new pastor, Rev. Dr. Terry Thomas. Pastor Thomas was installed on April 24, 2016. Christian Fellowship of Love continues to travel the “Journey of Faith” under the leadership of Pastor Terry Thomas, who seeks to maintain the strong foundation upon which CFL was built. Since 2016 the church has added technology to the sanctuary costing over $25K (tv monitors, equipment for streaming), added new mechanicals (replaced a
boiler and paid off the $45K loan), installed new steel doors throughout the building, other repairs and enhancements (total replacement of the roof and remolded the fellowship hall)), and the mortgage has been reduced by $300,000.00.

Our Church

04

While the ministerial staff has changed over the years, we have always been blessed with a group of committed servants who have served well the Christian Fellowship church family. Aside from the Pastor, there are currently four members of the Ministerial Staff, i.e., Rev. JoAnn Thomas-Plummer, Rev. Annie Williams, Rev. Charlie Barber, and Minister-in-Training Michelle Hyche. There are currently 10 Deacons and 6 Trustees. The Church has an array of ministries to support the needs of the congregation and the community. CFL has served as a source for learning for the congregation, lay leaders, and ministers in their moves to higher heights for the Lord.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Church continues to seek to uphold its mission.

CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP OF LOVE BAPTIST CHURCH is a Bible-centered body of believers who through the preaching of the gospel is called to edify the Body of Christ by perfecting the Saints for the work of the ministry and establishing Disciples into the Kingdom of God through evangelism, thereby fulfilling the Great Commission as mandated by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19.20.
We have seen storms and have been through the fire, but we’ll press on with fortitude, commitment, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we continue “Our Journey of Faith.” Lord, in the midst of all our challenges we look to you for strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit and pray that love permeates the membership of the Christian Fellowship of Love, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

ARTICLES OF FAITH

We believe the Scriptures teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite,
intelligent Spirit, whose name is Jehovah, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth;
inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor confidence and love; that in
the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; equal
in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of
redemption.

THE SCRIPTURES

01

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any a mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us, and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions shall be tried.

THE TRUE GOD

02

We believe the Scriptures teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is Jehovah, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor confidence and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of
redemption.

THE FALL OF MAN

03

We believe the Scriptures teach that man was created in holiness, under the law of his Maker; but by voluntary transgressions fell from that holy and happy state; in consequence of which all mankind is now sinners, not by constraint but choice; being by nature utterly void of that

holiness required by the law of God, positively inclined to evil; and there- fore under just condemnation to eternal ruin, without defense or excuse.

THE WAY OF SALVATION

04

We believe that the Scriptures teach that the salvation of sinners is whole of grace; through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God; who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon him our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by his
death made a full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead, he is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in His wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfections, he is in every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all-sufficient Saviour.

A Tribute to the Founding Pastor Samuel J. Thompson

In December 2005 saw a need to keep the flock unified, Pastor Samuel J. Thompson yielded
to the voice of the Holy Spirit to organize another Baptist Church. Being an obedient servant
and dedicated under-shepherd, he stepped out on faith, putting his trust in the Lord. On January
17, 2006. Pastor Thompson held a meeting at Phoenix Medical attended by 93 persons and
gave his vision of the Christian Fellowship of Love Baptist Church. On Sunday, February 5th, 2006
we experienced our first worship celebration when Pastor Thompson delivered a powerful
message. Being a powerful and loving shepherd, the flock grew under Pastor Thompson’s
guidance. Due to Rev. Thompson failing health, in 2014, he announced his retirement and became Pastor Emeritus. The keys of the church were turned over to Rev. Dr. Terry Thomas on April 24th,
2016. On February 17th, 2018, our beloved Pastor Emeritus Samuel J. Thompson, Jr. went to his
heavenly home. Not only is he missed by his family and his flock, but all that knew him.
He is remembered as a kind, generous servant and committed shepherd who marveled in the
work of the Lord. It is with never ending gratefulness that we give tribute, honor, and love to
Pastor Thompson for following the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit to act upon his
vision. It was a vision for the people, inspired by God, unfolded before his eyes with
confirmation that wherever the Lord leads, we must follow.
